In life, things happen. I have learned to treat these “things” as speed bumps. Everyone approaches a speed bump differently. To some traveling down a smooth road, unaware of what’s ahead then BAM! You look in the rear-view mirror, “what the heck was THAT?!”. (Totally missing the warning sign). Secondly, there are those drivers that see the speed bump, slow down and gently roll up and over.
2011 brought about my first “speed bump”, divorce. To say it was a BAM, gut check moment does not begin to describe that experience. It rocked my world. You discover just how tough you are going through a high conflict divorce. Throughout that time, I was focusing on the emotional well-being of my son and myself. Making sure our physical space felt safe and continued to feel like “home”. Juggling a career and being an engaged, single parent was tough. The number of days in court is only surpassed by the legal fees paid.
2019 was my second “speed bump”. This one I saw coming, my son’s graduation from high school and moving away to college. Empty nest syndrome. Gone were the days of a basement full of guys, playing video games, D&D, eating, eating, eating. We no longer needed 3,800 square feet.
